Benson, who became a member of Steve Bruce's backroom staff in December 2001, has cited the travelling to St Andrew's from his Maccleshire home as the reason for his departure.
He becomes the second member of Blues' backroom staff to leave the club since the end of the season with Terry Bullivant leaving St Andrew's earlier this month.
