Blues Linked With Toon Pair

Manager Steve Bruce has admitted that he hopes to bring in a couple of new faces before the transfer window closes at the end of the month and according to the sunday rag he has made a bid for the Magpies defensive pair.

Whilst I can understand Bruce being linked with French left-back Bernard, I find it difficult to believe that the Blues boss would be prepared to spend money accrued from the sale of midfielder Robbie Savage to Blackburn on central defender O'Brien during the transfer window.

Kenny Cunningham and Matty Upson have formed a formidable partnership at the heart of the Blues defence over the past two seasons and Martin Taylor proved he is a more-than-capable replacement with a good performance against Fulham in Upsons absence.

Elsewhere in the media, Blues have also been linked with Liverpool midfielder Vladimir Smicer, who hasn't kicked a ball this season for the Reds because of injury!!
