Bruce bids for two premiership players

Bruce could have up to twelve players unavailable for next Tuesday's match at West Bromwich Albion.

Blues will be without suspended trio Martin O'Connor, Geoff Horsfield and Curtis Woodhouse for the trip to The Hawthorns.

And with Steve Vickers, David Burrows, Danny Sonner, Graham Hyde and Michael Johnson all in the treatment room, Bruce has suddenly found his squad down to the bare bones.

The below-par performance against Wimbledon last week has added to the urgency of Bruce's movement into the transfer market, resulting in an attempt to prise two players out of the top flight - and not just on loan deals.

"We have put bids in for two Premiership players," Bruce said. "Of course, we are looking very much to build for the long term, but without doubt we are in a position where the squad needs some fresh blood now.

"At the moment, I have got ten players injured and three suspended for Tuesday's game and Curtis's ban being upheld certainly doesn't help.

"We are trying round the clock to bring in a couple of players just to give the squad a bit of impetus.

"We have two bids lodged with Premiership clubs, but can only wait and see how quickly the clubs respond - and then hope for the right response.

I'd like to get a player or two in as soon as possible, but we've just got to wait for the relevant wheels to turn at the clubs involved."

No names then - do you have any idea who these players may be?
