Steve Bruce was delighted that Geoff Horsfield's late strike enabled Blues to snatch their first away win since he took over.

Bruce delighted with away-day win
Horsfield struck 13 minutes from time to score what proved to be the match-winner at Sheffield Wednesday and leave Bruce celebrating.

"The result is the most important thing for us," said Bruce.

"I told the players before the game that we needed to improve over the second-half of the season and that we must start picking up points away from home.

"It was never a classic game as both sides gave the ball away far too much but I thought we were the better side.

"I was delighted with the work rate and keeping a clean sheet but it is fair to say there is room for improvement.

"We need to get something over the next few games as it will put us in with a chance of getting into the play-offs.

"We have got a few tough fixtures coming up where we need to start pulling some points back but we've made a good start to the second half of the season."

Bruce also saluted goalscorer Horsfield's vital contribution to the game, adding: "Geoff took his chance very well. He is a big handful for any defenders but he is also good on the floor for such a big lad. I know not many people would want to play against him."
