The 22-year-old winger, who is on a season long loan deal with Blues from Arsenal, was handed a three month jail sentence for a drink-driving offence at Aylebury Magistrates Court on Monday but Bruce has revealed that he will still be trying to turn Pennants loan deal into a permanent move.

"When we first took him we knew that he had this hanging over him," Bruce told Sky Sports News.

"The one thing he knows is that we will support him.

"We'll miss him because he's done really well for us over the past few games.

"He has to serve his punishment but I'm sure he'll have the mental toughness to serve and learn from it.

Asked if he intends to try and sign Pennant on his release, Bruce said: "Yes. If he agrees to a deal and of course if a deal can be struck with Arsenal.

"I told him that before he went to court and I hope he appreciates it.

"Rest assured when he does come out we'll do our best to support him."
