Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Bruce said: "Robbie Fowler is a top-class finisher and we have seen that today at our cost.
"It didn't really happen for us today and when we were looking for the golden opportunity, it came but Geoff fell over.
"It was obviously a big miss for us. He was hero last week at Aston Villa when he made himself a nuisance and got a goal. Unfortunately today it has just caught his standing foot which has taken him off balance.
"We needed a little break then because we deserved to get something out of the game, maybe not a win but certainly a draw."
