The Senegal international hasn't figured in the Blues side since the 1-1 draw with Blackburn at Ewood Park last month when he finished that game with a calf injury.

Fit, and looking to return to the side for the game with Chelsea at St. Andrew's last weekend, Cisse then injured his ankle in training one day prior to the match and fears were that he had damged ankle ligaments.

However, after undergoing scans in France, Cisse has now had it confirmed that there is no rupture ligament damage and he is now targetting the match against Manchester City at Maine Road on March 16th for his return to first team action.

"It's a massive relief," Cisse said. "I thought the injury had finished my season."
