The central defender, a major candidate for the Blues player of the season award, has withdrawn from the squad for the international friendly at Hampden Park on Wednesday because of a hamstring strain.

"Kenny did not train yesterday, said new Ireland boss Brian Kerr.

"Kenny would have been captain for this game - but I haven't really had much time to think who will now lead the side. I have only been in the job for two weeks!"

Manager Steve Bruce will now be hoping that Cunningham will have recovered in time for Blues next game against Liverpool at St. Andrew's on Sunday, February 23rd.
