Steve Bruce gave debuts to three of his summer signings in Izzet, Mario Melchiot and Julian Gray in a game watched by more than 4,000 fans at the Robins Whaddon Road ground.

Izzet gave Blues a first half lead, latching on to a Mikael Forsell flick-on from a Julian Gray left wing cross to fire home from six yards out on 16 minutes.

Cheltenham's equaliser came 18 minutes from time when David Bird's long throw was flicked-on by Damien Spencer for Kayode Odejayi to score with a header past Blues' substitute keeper Nico Vaesen.
