No new contract for club captain

Vickers, who was manager Steve Bruce's first signing at £425,000 from Crystal Palace in December 2001, has been plagued by injury since the end of last season and could be allowed to leave on a free transfer before his contract expires.

"It's disappointing but not really a surprise," Vickers told the Birmingham Post.

"Because of the number of injuries I've had it's been difficult. And I know I'm not the future of the club with players like Matthew Upson, Darren Purse, Olivier Tebily and Kenny Cunningham about."

If and when Vickers does leave the club he should be remembered for the important part he played in getting Blues back into the top flight - particularly his superb performance in the play-off semi final 2nd leg at Millwall, where he was quite awesome!

We wish him well for the future.
