The Blues midfielder was booked by referee Rob Styles for a foul on Olivier Barnard 34 minutes into the game at St James Park and will now miss the FA Cup 3rd round tie against Leeds United at St Andrew's next weekend.
Emile Heskey also picked up a caution at St James Park - his third booking of the season.
