Season could be over for Vaesen

Vaesen, who was doubtful for the game after a bout of tonsilitis, caught his leg in the turf while clearing the ball upfield and was stretchered off with five minutes remaining.

"We believe that Nico has got a serious, serious knee ligament problem and he was taken to hospital straight after the game," said manager Steve Bruce.

"He had been very sick. He had not trained on the Sunday or yesterday and had been in bed for the two days. He got out of his sick bed to play," added the Blues boss.
