Sutton On His Way

Sutton, who signed a short term deal with the Blues in January following his release from Celtic, was forced to sit out the home draw with Newcastle Utd on Saturday with a groin injury and co-owner David Sullivan has revealed that he will not be offered a longer deal at the club now that Blues face at least a season of Championship football.

"Every penny has to count. Sutton won't be here," Sullivan told the Daily Star newspaper.

"I think he's a very talented player but he's cost us £45,000 a week, which works out at well over £1million and he's only played a handful of games.

"We had some lads out there against Newcastle who won't want to break sweat playing in the Championship against the likes of Southend and Colchester."

Elsewhere, Nicky Butt will return to Newcastle when his loan deal expires after the last game of the season against Bolton at the weekend and Jiri Jarosik will do likewise to Chelsea.
