Martin Atkinson Refs Newcastle Match

Last updated : 24 April 2006 By Brian Cartlidge

Blues have already had the pleasure of the West Yorkshire based official refereeing two of their games already this season whilst Mr Atkinson has taken charge of just the one Newcastle fixture.

The last time Martin Atkinson refereed a Blues game was in our 2-1 home defeat to West Ham Utd back on 5th December. Emile Heskey was the only Blues player booked that night.

Martin Atkinson had also been the referee in charge of our 2-1 League Cup 3rd Round victory over Norwich City at St Andrew's on 26th October. No Blues players were booked on that occasion.

The one Newcastle game that Martin Atkinson has taken charge of this season was in their 1-0 FA Cup 5th Round win against Southampton at St James' Park back on 18th February. Magpies goalscorer Keiron Dyon was booked during that game.

In total Martin Atkinson has taken charge of just 16 Premier League fixtures so far this season in which he has handed out 44 yellow cards and 1 red.

Mr R Bone and Mr P Kirkup will be Martin Atkinson's assistants for the game at St Andrew's on Saturday afternoon.
