"It didn't start well for us with the injury to Upson who went to hospital for scans on an Achilles tendon injury. I am fearing the worst that he has a rupture," the Blues boss said after the local derby.

"Then we went a goal down and Dunn had to come off injured."

"I think the key decisions went in Villa's favour on the day.

"We now have four games left and we are not going to give up the ghost.

"We have a fighting chance and now we have to go into the Blackburn game, try to get a result to keep the pressure on.

"Portsmouth are in the driving seat. They have had an incredible run and they have been fortunate that they have been playing against half a Middlesbrough team, half an Arsenal team and a half a West Ham team.

"But credit to them. To get four wins out of six is fantastic form."
