Classic Match: Blues v Spurs - 1962

Last updated : 23 October 2008 By Brian Cartlidge
A crowd of 46,096 saw the exciting 3-3 draw at St. Andrew's when Blues fought back from 3-0 down to earn a replay against the FA cup holders.

Jimmy Greaves (7 minutes), Cliff Jones (29) and Greaves again (32) seemed to have given Spurs an easy victory - but resilient Blues never gave in and sixty seconds after Spurs' third goal had gone in, Jimmy Harris reduced the deficit.

Four minutes into the second half it was 3-2 when Harris headed home from close range.

The Blues fans invaded the pitch with joy (see its been going on for years!) and they were back again when five minutes later Welsh international Ken Leek notched the equaliser.

The headline in the B'ham Sports Argus that evening said it all: "Great Blues in Thriller of the Season."

There were 62,917 fans present to see the replay at White Hart Lane - a game Spurs won 4-2.

Harris and Leek again scored for Blues while Terry Medwin (2), Les Allen and Greaves (once more!) netted for the Londoners.

Spurs went on to retain the trophy that season.
