Qualification for the European competitions is complicated enough. The top four in the Premiership automatically qualify for the Champions League and after that the rest gets a bit confusing. For example if Arsenal play Manchester United in the FA Cup Final then that provides additional European places by virtue of the fact that, and quite rightly so, they will compete in the big European competition as opposed to the UEFA Cup. Or the Cup Winners Cup Winners Cup!
I’m not too sure how far down the Premier League you can finish and still enter a European competition. Don’t even get me started on the Fair Play League place up for grabs! Anyway all the Blues can do is finish as high as possible and let some overpaid jobsworth sitting in Brussels with nowt better to do than juggle football teams decide whether we can play with the foreigners or not. Once he’s finished checking the curvature of bananas that is!
