The Austrian international centre-back, who played for Brann Bergen when Blues toured Norway in the summer, appears to be high on Bruce's list of possible January transfer window targets.
The Blues boss is quoted as saying: "We're definitely looking at Scharner.
"He's a fantastic player. We're trying to negotiate but, at the moment, that hasn't been easy.
"I'm keen on bringing in a few players. I'm looking at two or three and hopefully we'll be bringing players in during the transfer window."
