Bassett issues van Hooijdonk warning

Bruce is being linked with a move for the unsettled PSV Eindhoven striker when the transfer window opens in January and Bassett rekindled memories of the way Van Hooijdonk behaved while at the City Ground before he finally went on strike.

"Pierre got me the sack and I have no time or respect for him," Bassett told the Sun newspaper. "Steve may feel he's a changed character.

"He could go to Birmingham, score goals and do the business - on the other hand, he could go there and cause the same sort of problems in the dressing room that he caused at Forest. He wanted to be chairman, manager, coach and player.

"The one thing you have to say about him is he scores goals. But it was his behaviour I had a problem with.

"Maybe Karren Brady and Steve think they can overcome that. I wish them well."
