Second half substitute Garry O'Connor scored the only goal of the match at the impressive Birds Nest Stadium in Beijing eight minutes from the end of normal time.

Blues had ample opportunities to score in the first half of the game most notably on 25 minutes when Nikola Zigic headed a Keith Fahey cross onto the crossbar and right on the stroke of half time when Craig Gardner headed straight at the keeper from just three yards out following a good left-wing cross to the far post by David Murphy.

With the heat in China obviously playing a part, both sides struggled in the second period and with a penalty shoot-out looming, Blues finally made the breakthrough on 82 minutes. A one-two between Kevin Phillips and Cameron Jerome resulted in Jerome's shot being parried out by the Beijing goalkeeper straight back into the same player's path. Jerome calmly laid the ball onto Garry O'Connor to score with a neat finish and seal a 1- 0 win for Blues.

Blues: Foster; Carr (Parnaby, 70 mins), Johnson (Dann, h/t), Ridgewell, Murphy, Valles  (Jerome, 60 mins), Gardner (Phillips, 70 mins), Michel (Mutch, 60 mins), Fahey (Larsson, h/t), Zigic (O'Connor, h/t), Ferguson (Bowyer, h/t).

Blues play their third and final game of the tour against Liaoning Hongyung FC  in Shenyang this coming Saturday, 24th July.
