The Blues midfielder was given a straight red card by referee Uriah Rennie just 28 minutes into the game at Anfield for a mis-timed, but not seemingly malicious, tackle on Reds defender Daniel Agger.
The claim for wrongful dismissal will be heard by a FA Disciplinary Commission on Friday 3rd February.
Should the appeal fail then DJ will face an automatic three game ban for the offence.
