Blues duo need rest

Striker Morrison has been troubled by a groin injury for the past three weeks while full-back Kenna has been battling on for even longer with an Achilles problem.

Both players really need rest to help overcome these injuries but the injury crisis at the club has denied them that opportunity.

Blues boss Steve Bruce said: "They both need two or three weeks rest if it was at all possible - but at the moment with the injuries we've got it is not possible.

However, Bruce has been boosted by the news that defenders Steve Vickers, Michael Johnson and Martin Grainger should return to training this week, so Kenna at least could get that much-needed rest after Saturday's home game with Spurs.

"It has been hard going." said Kenna. "I've been in the treatment room Mondays to Thursdays getting the injury treated with ice, megapulse, acupuncture and massage.

"It's been okay, apart from the acupuncture. I'm not too keen on the needles, I can tell you! The Achilles is a tender area at the best of times and the prospect of having needles stuck into it every morning is not something to look forward to. It doesn't make driving in to work any more pleasant.

"But it's had to happen because with all the injury problems we have had, it's just been a case of getting the fittest bodies out on the pitch. It's been the only way to keep me playing and the gaffer [manager Steve Bruce] has been very understanding about it.

"Now the general situation is easing. Damien Johnson, Steve Vickers and Michael Johnson are almost ready and Martin Grainger is close behind them. Hopefully, after the Tottenham game I might be able to get the rest the injury needs.

"While you never want to be out of the team, it's what I need right now. Two weeks' complete rest should do the trick. That way, there will be no way I even need to contemplate surgery. That would only come into the picture if I had to keep on playing on it."

Morrison, however, may have to continue leading the Blues attack as Geoff Horsfield still has another two-games of his three match ban to serve.

Hats-off to both of them for their commitment I say!!
