Blues have been charged with failing to control their players foolowing a horrendous tackle by Villa's Joey Gudjonsen on defender Matthew Upson late in the game, while on-loan French striker Christophe Dugarry faces a seperate misconduct charge for allegedly spitting at Gudjonsson earlier in the game.

Bruce confirmed: "We are contesting both charges. We are appealing and seeking a personal hearing.

"I really don't think that Christophe has got anything to answer to.

"As for the other charge of failing to control our players I will be defending us vigorously because I think our behaviour on the night was impeccable."
