Blues To Consider Cunningham Appeal

The Blues skipper was dismissed on Saturday for bringing down Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and denying the Reds midfielder a clear run on goal, his first red-card of the season - or so we thought!

An automatic one game ban was expected, which would have seen him sit out the opening game of the new season.

However, the FA notified the club earlier this week that Cunningham will face a two game suspension because he was also sent off against Newcastle in the Premier League Asia Cup Tournament in July last year, for which no first team suspension was imposed. He was allowed to serve a one game suspension in a reserve team fixture instead.

Blues boss Steve Bruce has described the two game ban imposed as ridiculous and has promised that the club will appeal the FA's decision if possible.
