Alexander Hleb is likely to be given a run-out to improve his match fitness following his loan move from Barcelona. The former Arsenal player made a promising debut against West Brom at the weekend before fading in the second half.

The likes of Maik Taylor, David Murphy, Keith Fahey, Michel, Jean Beausejour and Enric Valles will also be in contention to start.

McLeish has challenged his fringe players to show they are worthy of being amongst his first choice selections. He said: "It would be great to go all the way in the cup. Everyone would love a good cup run although the priority for us is the Premier League.

"But, having said that, I've got a squad of players I believe could be playing in the team every week. I've not got a first XI plus 11 reserves. I've got a whole squad that can play in the Premier League.

"But the guys playing have got to show what they can do and put pressure on the ones who started at the weekend."

Mk Dons manager Karl Robinson may recall ex-Liverpool and Bayern Munich midfielder Dietmar Hamann for the biggest test of his short managerial career so far. The German was named on the bench for the draw with Rochdale but it is expected his experience will be required.

Aaron Wilbraham is likely to continue on the bench after making his first appearance of the season and another summer signing, Gary Mackenzie, is also expected to continue on the bench although it is expected he will make his debut as a substitute.

Luke Howell also looks set to continue on the bench and Jude Stirling may also be fit enough to be a substitute following a groin injury. Stephen Gleeson remains sidelined with a muscle injury.
