The Blues midfielder was surprisingly missing from the team-sheet for the match at Oakwell on Tuesday night but manager Alex McLeish has revealed that Bowyer had sustained an injury late into the home win against Southampton at the weekend.

The Blues boss has confirmed that Bowyer has a groin injury but he is hoping that he will have recovered in time for the live on televison clash against Doncaster Rovers at The Keepmoat Stadium on Staurday evening.

"We hope that he will be back for Saturday," McLeish has told the Birmingham Mail.

"He had a scan and there wasn't much on it.

"He has had a bit of back stiffness over the past few weeks and possibly it has come from that, so he is seeing his specialist in London and we hope that he comes back with good news towards the end of the week.

"It is up in his abductor, at the top of his groin."
