Brady slams Mooney demands

Mooney, who is currently on loan at First Division Sheffield United, said at the weekend that he is prepared to see out the remaining 18 months of his contract whether chosen for the team or not.

Mooney said: “My Birmingham career is coming to a close and that is not opinion any more, that is fact.

"I'm not going to play for them again, that has been made clear and I would be delighted if something could be worked out at Sheffield United, but I'm under contract at Birmingham.

However, Mooney's words have hit a sour note with Karren Brady, who told the clubs official website, www.bcfc.com: “We were very disappointed to see what Tommy said and the fact that he sees Birmingham as a gravy train.

“So many football clubs are in administration because of this sort of attitude from a number of players who feel they can’t contribute to the on-going success of a club, and decide to sit it out.

“Why should we give Tommy Mooney a cheque for in excess of half a million pounds just for him to then go and get a contract somewhere else?

“As a board we are not prepared to have a gun held to our heads and I don’t see why the club should give a comfortable lifestyle to Tommy Mooney when we are in the process of maintaining our Premiership status.

“We always felt that Tommy had ambition but that is clearly not the case.

“We’ve offered him a free transfer, we’ve subsidised his wages and we’re prepared to pay him something, but we will not be paying up his contract in full and that’s our final stand on the matter.

“We’ve let him go on loan to both Stoke and Sheffield United, where we have subsidised him in trying to further his career, so what more are we expected to do?

“We feel it is only right that the supporters are made aware that Tommy is saying to the club ‘give me in excess of half a million pounds and I’ll go."
