Bruce considers Upson appeal

Upson tangled with Newcastle striker Craig Bellamy on the edge of the penalty area and although Bellamy was going away from goal and Darren Purse was there too so he wasn't the last man, referee David Ellery deemed the offence to be deliberate and showed Upson a straight red-card.

"It's not a sending-off is it? It's more clumsy,," said Bruce.

"The frustrating thing is not just that you lose the game, we miss him now for the first game of next season, so he prepares all pre-season and he's suspended for the first game of the season.

"Maybe before Mr Elleray retires, we'll ask him to have a look at the video and say 'Well, let's give him the benefit of the doubt'."
