Bruce named in team of the decade

While playing for Manchester United in the early nineties, Bruce won a total of three Premiership winners’ medals, four FA Cup winners’ medals, a League Cup winners medal and a European Cup-Winners Cup medal, and was widely regarded as one of the best centre-backs never to have played for England.

“It seems that long ago since I played! Any sort of accolade like that among that sort of company is very nice," said the Blues boss.

“I would thank the people who voted for me. The one thing about the introduction of Sky is that the Premiership is seen all around the world.

"Everybody admires the football so much and it is nice to be recognised in so many places.

“I believe the 1994 Manchester United side was the best team I ever played in.

"I would love to have seen it kept together longer. After 1994, it broke up.

“It was some team and whether the opposition wanted to play, wanted to fight or wanted to scrap, that team would take them on and had great spirit and an unbelievable appetite to succeed. I was fortunate to play in it and to captain it was a dream.”
