Bruce will pair the 27-year-old in midfield with his other summer signing, Robbie Savage.
"They will give us some strength in midfield," said Bruce. "In the World Cup against France, Aliou was excellent and I would like a few more performances like that from him. He has played upwards of 80 games for Paris St-Germain and was a regular on loan at Montpellier last season."
Meanwhile, Bruce is also hoping to beat off competition from Charlton and Sunderland for the signature of Wimbledon's Ireland international defender Kenny Cunningham.
