The Blues defender, who joined the Owls on loan until the end of the season earlier this month, was dismissed 2 minutes before half time for a professional foul as Paul Sturrocks side lost 1-0 away to their Yorkshire rivals.
Video replays showed Bruce's two-footed challenge had sliced down Terriers midfielder Adner Ahmed's thigh and left him needing treatment off the field for several minutes. Referee Lee Mason was right on the spot to issue a straight red card.
Bruce will now face an automatic three-game suspension for the offence.
