Bruce will strengthen squad in January

Bruce is aware of the need to strengthen the squad particularly in defence where Kenny Cunningham and makeshift full-back Damien Johnson have now joined long-term casualties Michael Johnson and Martin Grainger on the injury list.

Bruce said: "We were down to the bare bones on Saturday and that could be seen with the way we ended the game with Darryl Powell and Darren Carter playing at centre-backs and Stan Lazaridis at left-back.

"We've had a massive turnaround since I came here. I've brought 11 players in and let 17 go from the club in the last 10 months.

"Yes, when the transfer window reopens in just over a couple of months, we will be looking to strengthen if we possibly can in certain areas, maybe with two or three players to come in because we all know we are going to get injuries and suspensions.

"It's all about how you cope with that situation and we can just about get through at the moment but we can't have any more ruled out."
