Forget victories over the champions of England and the FA Cup finalists, this - Burnley's fourth victory in as many home matches - was "without doubt" the newly promoted club's biggest win of the season, according to Owen Coyle. The Burnley manager paid a roundabout tribute to his former Motherwell boss Alex McLeish by ranking this win over his Birmingham side above the shock results against Manchester United and Everton.

A cure for Burnley's travel sickness may be proving elusive, but their performances at Turf Moor will surely determine whether they retain their seat at the top table. Yesterday's bravura second-half display brought them victory over feeble, unambitious Birmingham City. More encouragingly, they became the first Premier League newcomers to win their first four home games.
