Burrows, who's contract was due to end in the summer, has joined Sheffield Wednesday and could make his debut for the Owls against Gillingham on Saturday.

Thirty-three-year-old Burrows joined Blues nearly two years ago from Coventry on a 'Bosman' free transfer but had fallen out of favour with Blues boss Steve Bruce after a training ground bust-up.

Meanwhile midfield youngsters Mikael Sabathier and Jacques Williams have also had their contacts paid up.

Williams, who signed at the same time as Tresor Lunatala, has been plagued by a series of injuries over the past couple of years while Sabathier has never been able to break into the first team squad.

"Unfortunately for Jacques, it's been worked out that he's not been available for 65 per cent of the time over the three years he's been here," said Bruce.

Striker Chris Ward, who cost Blues £20,000 in April from Lancaster City has also been shown the door by Bruce. Ward still had another year to run on his contract.

And, defender Ross Diamond who was due to be out of contract this summer as also been released.

"As far as first-team contracts are concerned, I'll be sitting down to have talks in the next few weeks," said Bruce.

"By allowing these younger lads to go now hopefully it will help them get fixed up quickly."
