Blues boss Alex McLeish has confirmed that the summer signing from Everton will be club captain in the absence of Damien Johnson who is likely to miss the start of the new season with a back injury.
"Carsley will start the season as captain," McLeish told the Birmingham Mail.
"Jonty's injured and he will be injured for a while.
"Carsley has come in and I think he has got terrific leadership qualities.
"He has got the experience as well. He's the type of guy who will lead with relish."
