Blues general manager John Benson told the club's official website: "Darren has returned early with a groin strain.
"It is too early to say exactly how long it will take to heal.
"We are not sure yet if he will be available for Sunday's game against Sheffield, and even if he does recover in time, whether he would be eligible to play, because the England game is on the same day."
