Celtic defender joins Blues

Blues boss Steve Bruce signed the 26-year-old when he was Sheffield United boss and has followed his career closely after he left the Blades to join Celtic in a £1.25 million deal.

"With the injury to Steve Vickers and the suspension of Darren Purse we felt we had to act with the position we're in," Bruce told the club's official website.

"Thankfully the Board of Directors have sanctioned it and I'd like to thank them because they realise it's a critical time for us.

"We didn't want to be gambling with Purse missing for three games and with Steve Vickers out, Olivier will certainly add to the squad.

"We've worked very hard to get him here, talking through the night and all sorts."

"Leaving a giant of a club like Celtic to come to us shows what sort of club we've got that we've been able to attract him here and he's a wonderful acquisition.

"He's somebody I brought into the country with Sheffield and I've always monitored his progress.

"He only played seven games for Sheffield, before getting his dream move to Celtic, so it was a big coup for us that we could persuade him to join us.

"He's an Ivory Coast international and a quality defender who's played at the highest level.

"We feel that for the long term he will be a good investment for us."
