Cisse: Blues Fans Best In England

The Senegal international midfielder signed for Pompey last week after two seasons at St Andrews and his first game for his new club may well be against Blues who travel to Fratton Park on Saturday for their first game of the new Premiership season.

Cisse was a lynchpin in the Blues midfield following his arrival from Paris St Germain in the summer of 2002 but in October of the same year he lost several members of his family in a ferry disaster and was never really the same player again.

When he returned from compassionate leave following the ferry disaster for his first game back against Manchester City at St Andrews, a group of Blues fans had arranged, with the aid of yellow, green and red cards, for the Senegal flag to be displayed across the Tilton Road end of the ground.

Now following his transfer to Pompey, Cisse has told the mail: "Birmingham, they are the number one supporters in England. They were wonderful to me.

"It is a shame I had problems, but I do not regret joining the club."
