The Senegal World Cup captain, who can also play in defence, was introduced to his new team-mates at Wast Hills training ground as the squad reported back for pre-season training today.

Talks have been ongoing, his £1.5 million transfer has been finalised and barring any unexpected problems with the medical the deal should be completed soon.

"Aliou arrived last night and Mark Bowen brought him from his hotel into training today," manager Steve Bruce told the B'ham Evening Mail.

"The financial and personal details are virtually complete and I'm delighted that we're getting him. It's been a long chase, but it will be worth it."

Bruce went on: "I've seen things that suggested he'd never heard of our club or knew who I was, which we could have done without.

"But that was all rubbish. He doesn't speak a great deal of English but it was made clear to me throughout all this that he wanted to come here and play in the Premiership.

"I agreed with his agent that I wouldn't speak to him until the World Cup was over and obviously Senegal did well and it dragged on."
