The Blues left back required stitches on the cut to his ankle sustained during the game at Manchester City on Wednesday night and will not play at Goodison Park on Saturday lunchtime.

Elsewhere, right back Mario Melchiot finished the game at Eastlands with a slight hamstring strain whilst centre-back Matthew Upson took a knock on his knee though both are expected to be fit in time for the Everton clash.

Julian Gray is still struggling with the calf injury that kept him out of Wednesday nights squad.

Midfielders Damien Johnson and Medhi Nafti are both expected to return to manager Steve Bruce's squad after being rested for the game against City.
