Blues boss Steve Bruce has confirmed that the former England international striker has resumed training this week after suffering a hamstring injury.
Bruce must now decide whether to begin with Cole spear-heading the Blues attack against The Saints or whether he should make his debut from the bench.
Elsewhere, midfielder Stephen Clemence has also trained this week having missed the last two games with a rib injury and he too is expected to go straight back into the squad fro the match at St Andrew's on Saturday afternoon.
