Cunningham in fitness race

The Republic of Ireland international captain, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since the clash with Manchester United at Old Trafford on December 28th, has returned to training and is hoping for a return to action at the Reebok Stadium this weekend.

With Steve Vickers coming-off injured in Blues' last game at Blackburn Rovers and Darren Purse undergoing a second operation on his injured ankle, Blues boss Steve Bruce will be hoping the Bolton fixture doesn't come to soon for Cunningham to make his return.

"He has stepped up his rehabilitation programme," Bruce told the B'ham Evening Mail.

"Fingers crossed, Kenny will be okay, but we will have to wait and see nearer the end of the week."
