With Maik Taylor serving a one-match ban for his red-card at Old Trafford earlier this month Ian Bennett will come in for his first Premiership start this season - but who occupies the reserve keeper spot?

Ireland under 20 international Colin Doyle has undergone surgery on a knee injury and Nico Vaesen has been sidelined since the last encounter with the arch enemy at Villa Park in March.

Vaesen has stepped up his training over the last fortnight and was being considered for the reserves outing against the Villa on Thursday night. Reserves team boss Keith Bertschin however, stated that the game (which ended 1-0 to Villa) had come to early for the Belgian keeper.

Nico is well ahead of schedule after surgery on his knee ligament injury but without any match action is he ready to step back into the first team fold in such a big game?

A dilemna then for Brucie - risk Nico, play without a keeper on the bench or throw in a young keeper?

My guess is Nico will be on the bench.
