Devlin reveals dressing room banter

Last updated : 11 October 2002 By Brian Cartlidge

Welsh international Savage insists Wales are the force of British football while Devlin, called into the Scotland squad last week thanks to his Scottish father, admits to being a Scotland fanatic since childhood.

The Scots could only manage a draw against the Faroe Islands last month and Devlin said:

"Robbie Savage gave me merciless stick after that game and since I have had the call-up he has been hammering me.

"He was asking me 'how can you say Scotland are the best if you can't beat the Faroes?'

"It was good-natured banter because Robbie is a great lad.

"He keeps telling me that Wales are by far the best team in Britain now but we'll see how they do when they play Italy.

"I'm always getting stick off the English lads anyway so hopefully I can stick their words down their throats as well."
