Double Punishment For King Kenny

The Blues skipper was dismissed on saturday for bringing down Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard and denying the Reds skipper a clear run on goal, his first red-card of the season - or so we thought!

An automatic one game ban was expected, forcing him to sit out the opening game of the new season.

However, the club have confirmed that the FA have notified them that Cunningham will face a two game suspension because he was also sent off in the Premier League Asia Cup Tournament in July last year.

On that occasion Cunningham was dismissed by referee Rob Styles for bringing down Newcastle striker Alan Shearer in Blues opening game of the competition in Kuala Lumpur.

With that card included Cunningham has therefore received two red cards this season and, as was the case with goalkeeper Maik Taylor, now faces an automatic two game ban.

Unbelievable!
