Down to the wire

With Manchester City securing the First division title and Wolves & WBA fighting it out for the second automatic spot there are three play-off places up for grabs and five teams are all still in with a shout.

Along with Blues - Norwich, Preston, Burnley and Millwall are all up there scrapping it out for one of the play-off places.

Blues currently sit in fifth place with 73 points, so a win against Sheffield Utd at St. Andrews next Sunday will assure us of a place in the top 6 - simple as that - or is it!

On the last Sunday of the 1998 season Blues needed a victory against Charlton Athletic at St. Andrew's to snatch sixth place from Sheffield Utd.

In front of a full-house the game ended in a 0-0 stalemate. United drew their last match and Blues missed out on goal difference, both teams had 74 points.

And so this season Blues have kept the fans waiting nervously once again to see if they can make it to the play-offs for a fourth successive season.

It won't be easy by any means, just look at the last day fixtures of the teams battling it out:
Preston v Notts Forest
Burnley v Coventry
Millwall v Grimsby
Norwich v Stockport
Blues v Sheff.Utd

All of the teams involved have a home fixture and all have games they would think they should win!

Current standings/points:
Man City - 96pts
WBA - 86pts
Wolves - 85pts
Millwall - 74pts
Blues - 73pts
Burnley - 72pts
Norwich - 72pts
Preston - 69pts

Well, its in our own hands now, but I'm sure that in front of a passionate 28,000+ Bluenoses at St. Andrew's on Sunday that Blues will cement their place in the top 6.

COME ON YOU BLUE BOYS.
