The French side, which included members of their 1998 World cup winning side such as Zinedine Zidane, Fabien Barthez, Marcel Desailly, Jean-Pierre Papin and Didier Deschamps as well as present internationals Robert Pires and Thiery Henry, drew 1-1 with a Marseille XI which included former Fulham striker Steve Marlet.

The Blues striker played for all of the first half which finished goalless.

Five minutes after the break Hossam Ahmed Mido opened the scoring for Marseille but Arsenal striker Silvan Wiltord equalised for the French XI on 68 minutes.

All proceeds from the game at the Stade Velodrome in Marseille go towards the victims of the Algeria earthquake, where more than 2.000 people died last May.
