Dugarry scored his fifth goal in four games in the 3-0 win over Middlesbrough and now Bruce will pull out all the stops to sign the on-loan Bordeaux striker on a permanent deal at St Andrews.

"Christophe has gone home for three days and when he comes back I will make it our first priority to try and get him to stay here," Bruce said after the game.

"I have got the backing from everyone concerned at the club and I do believe he will stay here.

"He gave me his word when he came here that would be the case if we stayed in the Premiership and I have no reason to doubt him.

"Everybody knows what a fantastic impact he has made here and once again I say that he is the best player to play for Birmingham City."
