Hughes' place in the squad will be taken by Jovan Kirovski who bagged a second half hat-trick for the reserves in their 4-3 win against Everton in midweek.
Youngster Craig Fagan, who impressed manager Steve Bruce during Wednesday's reserve team game enough for the boss to hand him a first team squad number, will also travel to The Riverside.
