Centre-back Upson was forced to sit out Blues' game against Manchester Utd last weekend having picked up a hamstring strain during training last week. The injury also forced Upson to withdraw from the England squad for the international friendly against Holland at Villa Park on wednesday night.

Heskey has missed Blues' last two league fixtures against United and Southampton with an Achilles injury he aggravated during the 2-0 FA cup 4th Round defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the end of January.

The Blues hitman will partner new signing Walter Pandiani in attack for the first time in the game against his former club this weekend.

Damien Johnson, who was forced to withdraw from the Northern Ireland squad for their game against Canada in Belfast this week is also expected to have recovered in time for the game against The Reds.

However, Salif Diao, who is on a season long loan deal at Blues from Liverpool, will not be allowed to play as part of the deal to bring him to St Andrew's stipulates he cannot play in the game against his own club.

Skipper Kenny Cunningham faces a late fitness test on a foot injury he picked up playing for the Republic of Ireland against Portugal in Dublin on Wednesday night.
